Sarah Frances Kuhn will induce wanderlust and office space envy as she gives us a tour of her outdoor tree house studio space where she makes her namesake gorgeous, bold camera straps.
Welcome to my little treehouse-studio! It is the SFK “outpost” located in Pittsburgh, PA on the same street where Andy Warhol spent part of his child-hood.
The coolest part about my studio, is that I feel like I am in the woods, but I am only a ten minute bike ride from downtown Pittsburgh.
Birds and butterflies come up to this window to say hi. Those are plum, peach and apple trees.
Inside, there is art that myself and friends have made. I love to surround myself with inspiration.
Being in this space inspired me to create a sustainable line as I feel more connected to nature. I want to continue to find ways to incorporate and promote up-cycling by reusing materials rather than just buying new.
I painted the ceilings with hamsas, the ancient sign of protection.
Here is my hand-painted door. Many people have stayed in this studio before me. Someone made door handles out of branches, which I love!
I also love to practice guitar here and have written many songs in my tree-house sanctuary. I have a new band called, KZRA, which has a garage-rock sound with a twinge of country, inspired by my roots in Tennessee.
