Is it just us, or have podcasts made a comeback (perhaps it’s the post-Serial effect)? In the last few weeks we’ve noticed a well-heeled shuffle of movement from our favorite bloggers and fashionistas moving into new media channels (not that we’re complaining!). While some have moved to Snapchat and others into producing more video content, we’re currently loving those opting for podcasts as the alternative. What we’ve learned is that podcasts make for a perfect hands-free way to keep oneself entertained on commutes, drives, while cleaning, undergoing nightly beauty routines, doing the dishes and Sunday afternoon rainy-day laze sessions. Here are our picks for podcasts that’ll have you in fits of laughter and leave you feeling super inspired at the same time.
1. #girlboss radio
Sophia Amoruso brings her girlboss fandom to your ears! Recently launched with only three episodes to boot, #girlboss radio promises interviews with inspirational women from around the world who have made a mark in their respective industries, and can provide suitably well-informed advice and stories from what they’ve learned along the way. The station is hosted by the #girlboss herself.
2. Monocle 24: The Entrepreneurs
With an episode each week, Monocle brings its solid experience and outreach to the podcast world in half-hour interviews with inspirational people from all over the world, from all sorts of companies, and from all sorts of backgrounds. Expect interviews with the Head of J.Crew Mensware to analyses of the start up scene in Lebanon by Lebanese entrepreneurs. There’s no doubt you’ll have learned something new after every episode.
3. Oh Boy by Man Repeller
If you follow us on Twitter, it isn’t really a surprise how much we love Leandra Medine. Giving us more reasons to laugh out loud, Medine and Jay Buim bring the iconic Man Repeller voice of witty charm and comedic genius to this podcast. With nearly a dozen episodes to date, each show, thus far, is an interview with some truly badass women recounting (with some unedited giggle-fests included) their trials and tribulations that are life affirming and filled with ‘Girl-I-get-you’ moments. Plus, the jingle will have your head bopping before the interviews even begin. TEQTip: our personal favourite is Leandra’s chat with Stacy London.
4. Vogue Podcast
Maybe not the best of the podcasts out there, but iconic in its own right. Vogue US have done something quite unlike other glossy’s by moving into podcasts. With only a handful of episodes so far, the series is hosted by Andre Leon Talley in conversation with AW herself, and Kim K in the latest ep. If the line-up since launch is anything to go by, I think we can expect some up-close and personal thoughts from real fashion industry heavyweights.
5. Fashion is Your Business
This podcast has been around for some time and is naturally a favourite of ours given its theme of fashion business and technology. Hosted by a triple-threat crew of a lawyer/strategist, a fashion tech community builder and a comedian/entrepreneur, this show is understandably equal parts informative, funny and relatable, and unquestionably an essential for anyone either looking for industry inspiration and advice, or those striving to move into fashion tech. These episodes are a little longer than typical, running at 60 mins per show, so we tend to listen to these when procrastinating (hey, we’re all human!) or on long drives.
